The Practice
L – P : Archaeology is one of the UK’s leading archaeological practices with offices in London, Chester, Bury, and Welshpool and has been involved in commercial archaeological services since November 1990. For nine years we were the archaeological department of Lawson Price, a town planning consultancy. Since 1999, we have been an independent archaeological practice.
Our background in town planning means we have a firm grasp of the requirements of UK development. Our clients are from all sectors of the industry: residential, industrial, commercial, education, transportation, energy, utilities, minerals, sport and leisure, and their projects involve regeneration, refurbishment, and sustainable new build.
We are an example of worker co-ownership. All permanent staff are partners in the business. Their commitment to the business gives us a competitive advantage which has resulted in eleven years of profitable growth. All our clients receive unrivalled service from our archaeologists and specialists.
L – P : Archaeology is a Registered Organisation with the Institute for Archaeologists.
Digital Outreach
L – P’s Digital Department are pioneers in the growing field of ‘digital outreach’, providing new and innovative ways to present archaeological data online to both professionals and the general public. Our digital outreach strategy builds on existing online communities and draws on public contributions to create dynamic online resources, often combined with live archaeological data.
Recent award-winning digital outreach by L – P:
Designed and developed a website for the Thames Discovery Programme which won the 2010 “British Archaeological Award” for Best Representation of Archaeology in the Media.
Designed and developed the Prescot Street Dig which contained weekly updates, reports on activities on site, photographs, videos, new finds and a regular ‘journal’ section from the staff involved in the investigation of a very interesting part of East London’s past. This innovative and exciting web site project has something for everyone – school children and the local community, to academics and archaeologists. LP won the first ever BAJR (British Archaeological Jobs Resource) web award in 2008 for the Prescot Street Dig website’s content, design, and ease of use.
