Description

    • [871] is the grave cut for skeleton 870. The finds contained in its fills (872) and (880) show that it is Roman in date. [871] also is situated in an area of Roman burial such as 741/742 to its northeast. The fills also contained evenly spaced nails which indicate that there was a coffin. No grave goods were found, a few pieces of displaced pottery were contained in the fills. The context of 871 is important in how it fits into the Roman cemetery, which partially remains on site, although in poorly condition [871] contained the best preserved and least truncated skeleton in Zone 1.
