Description

    • Roman brickearth layer. Mixed deposit of Roman material, certainly dumped rather than having been built up gradually: brickearth appeared very clean in past but the small extent and lack of regularity in plan make it unlikely to be a floor surface. Instead it is probably deposited to firm up and level unevenly subsided ground.
