Subgroup Narrative Text

    • Quarry pit [710] contained two fils. Fill (708) was the secondary fill of [710], seen as a leveling deposit, probably formed by refuse deposits. This pit also held primary fill (709), seen as gravel slumping. This pit cut was dug in to (724), (720), and (820), all quarry pit fills. Accordingly it can be seen as a later event in the quarrying of the area.

Dating Narrative

    • A total of eight pot sherds were recovered from (709). Seven of these date to 1480-1550; one dated to 1270-1500, and this is seen as residual. A coin, accurately dated to 46-50 AD was recovered from this primary fill. It is a copper coin dated to the rein of Constans (small find no. 105). This is clearly a residual find.
