Contexts

Subgroup Narrative Text

    • In an area of heavy truncation, underlying the modern overburden lay (1760) a brickearth layer that overlay (1769), a further layer of dirty redeposited brick earth. These layers were seen as capping layers, with (1769) overlying (1960), a relatively barren fill of pit cut [1961] that was dug into the natural gravels of the site area. Flecks of CBM and charcoal were found within (1960), along with occasional pieces of bone; this mix indicates that the feature was a refuse pit.
