Subgroup Narrative Text

    • Underlying agricultural soils (1289) was (1735), the fill of Roman supine inhumation (1733) in grave cut [1734] including votive pot -samian vessel (1736). Other notable finds include Cu coin 182 and Fe nails from coffin including some possible parts of iron fittings for coffin. Samples - from the stomach and feet taken 166.Votive pot (1736) placed at foot of inhumation (1733) - pot complete - fill of pot - environmental sample no. 170. Note, pot recorded on side - one other pot v. fragmented - not complete, was also observed next to (1736) to the E and may well have served as a votive offering - brown grey fabric.

Dating Narrative

    • A total of 22 pot sherds were recovered from this feature, all of which were dated to 120-160AD. A badly erroded copper coin was also recovered from this feature, which has been dated to 45-120AD.
