Subgroup Narrative Text

    • This subgroup consists of a series of features that formed foundation elements for the housing that fronted on to Prescot Street. Context {681} formed the foundation wall for {685} the rear wall of housing that would have fronted on to Prescot Street. Overlying {685} was internal wall {682}, and its return {683} that butted up against {681}. Overlying {683} was {684} and {686}, although in line with {685} it was seen as a rebuild/repair. Context {687} was an extension to rear of house, while {689} Although parallel to 688, this wall appears to be contemporary with 686 as it is incorporated into the structure. Stratigraphically between {693} and {699} was a series of support platforms for a wooden floor, which consisted of {712}, {713}, {714} and {715}.

Dating Narrative

    • These masonry elements were built with unfrogged brick. In addition the from, function and stratigraphic position of these features demonstrate them to be the Stewart/Georgian foundations of the housing that would have fronted on to Prescot Street.
