Subgroup Narrative Text

    • Forming the earliest back fill of quarry pit [639], (642) was a very organic rich clayey silt deposit that had created conditions conducive to very good preservation of organic material. This was particularly notable with the large amounts of worked leather recovered from the excavation of the deposit. This was frequently in the form of shoes and cobblers waste. This has been dated to the late Medieval to Early Post Medieval period. This was sampled as sample number <11>. This context was recorded as being equal to (104) from the evaluation.
