Subgroup Narrative Text

    • Context [102] from the evaluation and [639] formed a large early Post Medieval quarry. The cut measured 12metres by 7metres and had a depth of 2m. Given its size it is seen as having been quarried on an industrial scale. It was dug into (730), the secondary fill of pit cut [731]

Dating Narrative

    • This large quarry pit was dug for the gravels of the site area. Therefore the fills are not seen as part of this subgroup as the pit was not dug to take them, they formed part of a later back filling process. However, the earliest back fill, (642), produced 54 pot sherds. Of these, 45 were dated to 1480-1550AD, the remainder were dated to 1400-1500AD, and these latter finds are seen as residual.
