Subgroup Narrative Text

    • Context(720) was a mixed fill of quarry pit [719], which was cut by [649] and [710]. This appears to be a quarry pit, in a series of quarry pits. It seems that after the gravel was extracted they dumped a variety of deposits into the hole, and the gravel around the edges slumped inwards. [719] was dug into (782), the fill of quarry pit [755].

Dating Narrative

    • A total of 22 pot sherds were recovered from this feature. Ten of these were Roman dated to 100-140AD, and these were seen as residual. One was Medieval dated to 1430-1550, which is again seen as residual. And eleven were Post Medieval, dated to 1480-1550. Given the dating and stratigraphic position the feature is Post Med.
