Group Description

    • Roman leveling deposit (959) overlay (1195), the upper fill of pit [1196], that also held primary fill (1197). These mixed fills were seen as refuse deposits, and cut [1197] was dug into gravel deposit (1188). Layer (959) also sealed (1216), a pit fill containing redeposited cremation remains that filled pit [1217], which was was cut straight into the natural.

Dating Information

    • A total of 27 pot sherds were recovered from the fills of pit [1196], 15 of which were dated to 140-160AD, and 13 were dated to 120-160AD. A total of 12 pot sherds were recovered from the fill of pit [1217], all of which were dated to 50-160AD.
