Group Description

- This pit cut was revealed gradually over the course of the excavation, and this was due to its size. To say this was a quarry it is something of a misnomer; it was more of a quarry face rather than a quarry pit. It was very big in size, measuring 30 metres east to west and 19 metres north to south. It had a varying depth, the deepest point being 2.5m. It was back filled by a series of events and had been subjected to a series of heavy truncations. This probably represents an 'industrial' form of quarrying, where a group of workers work in a line chopping into the gravels creating a 'quarry face'. This was one of the earliest activities on the site area, and due to its extent, it was probably the result of large scale activity.
