- In the western area of the site, underlying a series of early Roman cut features lay spreads of dirty gravels and brick earth that were redeposited in the Roman period. They were relatively sterile of finds, but were certainly redeposited due to their dirty mixed nature. These gravels had occasional charcoal flecks within them, but were otherwise sterile. They were possibly used as a leveling deposit, or possibly representing the original Roman ground surface, that overlay the natural gravels of the site area. Stratigraphically underlying these layers lay group 2, the heavily truncated remains of a palaeochannel.

Dating Information

- No datable material was recovered from these layers, but given their stratigraphic position, they are seen as Roman.
