Group Description

    • Cut [1348] was dug through (1323), a shallow dark layer of clayey silt that formed subgroup 366, and which overlay the natural gavels of the site area; this layer was possibly an inwash deposit that accumulated in the area of land exposed by the excavation of quarry face [1261]. Quarry pit cut [1644] was dug into (1881), which in turn overlay (1882) both of which formed subgroup 726, and which were slump deposits forming early fills of quarry pit cut [1261].
