Group Description

    • In an area of heavy truncation, fill (1986) was he latest fill of the pit [1980]. Fill (1986) overlay fairly barren fill (1990), which overlay (1976). These are seen as secondary fills used to level off the area of the pit. Deposit (1976) overlay (1977), seen as a slumped deposit that formed the primary fill of [1980], and these latter two contexts formed subgroup 496. Fill (2166) was a mixed fill with pot, CBM, and charcoal, which was seen as domestic refuse forming the fill of [2167], subgroup 533, and which was dug into (2011), the latest back fill of pit [2013].

    • The dating of these pits and their stratigraphic position demonstrate them to be late Roman.
