Sub Groups

  • Sub Group: PCO06_521
    • Cut for quarry pit

Group Description

    • Refuse deposit (1744) a formed a mixed pit fill of quarry pit cut [1743], which also contained earlier back fill deposit (1761). These mixed fills contained pot, CBM, animal bone, oyster shell, occasional iron objects and very occasional molten glass indicating that they were refuse deposits dumped into pit cut [1743] in order to back fill the area of the pit cut. Underlying (1761) was (1725) a redeposited cremation that possibly formed part of back fill (1761). The size of this pit cut in the context of the site indicates that it is a quarry pit cut, which was dug into the natural gravels of the site area.
