Description

    • Fill of poss. posthole [994]. This fill contained sherds of pottery-most likely Roman. Very few fragments of burnt bone which makes it more likely to be a posthole and not a cremation pit. No traces of wood was visible in the fill though

  • Dark grey with some mid-brown patches
  • Clayey silt
  • Occasional charcoal, occasional pebbles: sub-angular, sub-rounded; very occasional of burnt bone
  • Thickness: 22cm
  • 4 nails was found within the fill. 993/[994] is located within a larger pit
  • Trowelled in fairly dry condition. However, the ground was quite moist.
