Interpretation
-
- Very dark Roman depoit which may be debris from funeral pyres dumped in the area. However it might also derive from domestic refuse or industrial processes (that being said, it didn't contain slag or hammer-scale)

- Frequent clay (well mixed with rest of deposit), occa. charcoal, pot, CBM, chalk flecks, frequent sub-angular to sub-rounded flint pebbles (up to 0.1m)
- Underneath cultivation layer/soil 1127
- removed by machine after sampling for finds and bulk enviro. Planned using TST but using context number 1151
