Interpretation

    • Very dark Roman depoit which may be debris from funeral pyres dumped in the area. However it might also derive from domestic refuse or industrial processes (that being said, it didn't contain slag or hammer-scale)

  • removed by machine after sampling for finds and bulk enviro. Planned using TST but using context number 1151
