Survey (non intrusive)

Non-intrusive works during early stages of archaeological investigation can be a cost effective way of assessing the archaeology on a site.

A range of techniques can be required by the local authority and may help clients avoid the higher costs of intrusive evaluation. Our unique recording system (ARK) has modules for each of these techniques and our GIS specialists have the unique skill of combining all of this resulting data so it can be used throughout a project.

On larger sites our Historic Landscape Modelling or Sensitivity Modelling services can also be used in conjunction with any or all of the following services to provide an overall understanding of the landscape of the site.

FIELDWALKING

Field walking can be used as a stand alone form of evaluation, or as part of wider projects. It involves the strategic investigation of sites and mapping of finds and features present within pre-defined transects. Findings can then be used to highlight areas of potential risk to the client and minimise the level of intrursive works required by targeting evaluation.

LANDSCAPE SURVEY

Where above ground archaeological remains are encountered archaeological survey work can be required. Surveyors will complete a full record of the upstanding remains or earthworks using a range of digital survey techniques. Digital 3D models can be produced from the data recovered.

GEOPHYSICS

Geophysical surveys can establish the presence of sub-surface remains without causing any damage or disturbance. L – P can provide the services of a fast efficient team who will highlight areas of archaeological interest to minimise further investigation.
