Historic Buildings Assessment
Historic building assessment or characterisation is often required at the earliest stages of the planning process. L – P : Archaeology can offer advice on a clear and efficient strategy to facilitate the planning process as well as carrying out the building characterisation and assessment on behalf of the client.
Issues and Constraints
An Historic Building Assessment is a useful step to identify early issues and development constraints. It usually consists of a low-level survey which will assess the overall character and existing historic fabric of a particular building, within the context of its structure and environment.
Confidential Assessment
L – P : Archaeology will undertake, in confidence, an assessment of a building’s phasing and development in order to identify which areas of the building’s history may present a planning issue. Assessment is non-intrusive and combines a search of documentary evidence with a photographic and initial appraisal of the site. The report is designed to provide the client with a framework from which a suitable redevelopment or refurbishment strategy can be developed and to satisfy the requirements of the local authorities.
Cultural Heritage chapters for EIAs
L – P : Archaeology also have a range of experience undertaking built heritage assessments suitable for inclusion in Environmental Impact Assessments, this often involves looking at a wider range of buildings and taking into consideration the impact a development and its construction may have on the setting, fabric, character of a building or group of buildings. Our consultants are skilled at looking at larger groups of buildings and the visual effects a development can have on existing character areas. We have particular experience working with listed buildings and the additional issues they can present.
