Evaluation
Prior to the determination of a planning condition, local authorities often wish to clarify the extent, nature and the quality of archaeological deposits on a site. There are a number of methods which can be used to gain this information.
Non intrusive field surveys are sometimes used, normally on larger sites.
However the most common form of evaluation usually takes the form of trial trenching or test pitting. We will negotiate a suitable sample strategy with the local planning authority, designed to give the most effective indication of the surviving archaeological deposits within the client’s development framework.
