About Merlin

The idea of Merlin is to provide a single repository for all types of spatial data. Modern development projects produce a vast quantity of spatial data which can range from plans of ancient hedgerows to floodplain constraints and flightpath information. The correct management of this data means all members of a team can work on the latest information, producing more effective master plans.

Adding Data

Data can be gathered from different members of a project team in a variety of ways. Plans and spatial data can be e-mailed to the GIS specialist in charge of the project. Larger files can be sent on CD or uploaded by secure ftp directly onto our servers. If you prefer to work on paper, thats fine too, we can quickly and easily digitise any kind of paper plans and drawings.

Storing Data

Data is then processed by the specialist, held in standard GIS data formats with correctly validated meta-data to explain what each is. The data is stored securely on our servers which run tried and tested security and database software.

Accessing Data

The data can be accessed in one of three ways. Firstly by use of a web browser-based interface which allows the team member to log into the project website and configure the map they want using the tools provided. This can be viewed on screen or downloaded and printed out. Alternatively our specialists can produce custom output which can then be printed out or sent via e-mail to the project team. The third way is for the GIS specialist to attend seminars where they can bring the live data with them to produce plans and make changes collaboratively.
The service can be tailored to suit a variety of requirements – some clients may prefer to use our GIS specialists while others may prefer a more automated approach.
