Time Team Archives
May 12, 2009 by Matthew Williams
L – P : Archaeology was commissioned by Videotext Communications Ltd, producers of Channel 4’s popular ‘Time Team’ programme, to project manage the post excavation work from a selection of sites excavated between 1992 and 2001.
L – P drew up a clear programme to efficiently collate and examine the existing artefact and paper archives, site reports, artefact illustrations, specialist analyses, published articles and books.
The 30 plus individual site reports and archives were in varying stages of completion. The scope of L – P’s involvement included finalising briefs (detailing the aims and scope of the archaeological work) with the local authority archaeologists, and where necessary:
- Locating and assessing the status of the site archive
- Commissioning specialist assessments and analyses and chasing outstanding data for reports
- Completing site reports and publications; ensuring review by, and agreeing publication proposals with, County Archaeologists and English Heritage
- Managing queries from local authorities and members of the public regarding the sites
- Updating existing Historic Environment Record and SMR with relevant information
L – P : Archaeology brought each project up to recognised standards; closely liaising with English Heritage and the specific local authorities to ensure that all relevant parties were satisfied, whilst ensuring that the client received value for money.
