Royal Mail Sheffield

May 11, 2006 by Blair Poole

The old Royal Mail Building in Sheffield forms the central focus of a new development. Several phases of archaeological investigations were required on the site prior to planning determination.

These comprised a full Desk Based Assessment followed by a Historic Building Assessment and characterisation survey.

The Desk Based Assessment revealed the extent of previous development on the site, including an earlier cutlery factory, part of Sheffield’s steel heritage.

The building assessment revealed high quality architectural features of historic importance throughout the building.
