Reaseheath College

Reaseheath College is one of the most successful specialist colleges in the country. The College is currently investing in its student facilities with stylish new accommodation for the Agricultural Department. The curved building of 1250 square metres will provide 96 bedrooms and associated welfare facilities.
The new building is located just 100 metres to the east of a Medieval moated settlement designated by English Heritage as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The Local Authority deemed the site around the ancient settlement to be of high archaeological potential and considered it likely that Medieval structures or agricultural features may be found within the footprint of the building.
L – P : Archaeology were contracted by the architect of the scheme, Hulme Upright Manning to carry out a Watching Brief to comply with a planning condition set for the development. L – P monitored the topsoil strip and the excavation of new drainage and foundation trenches on the site. No archaeological features were present, despite the sites proximity to the Scheduled Monument.
Following a full archaeological report submitted to the Cheshire County Archaeologist, no further archaeological work was required.
