Greenbank
May 10, 2006 by Blair Poole
L – P : Archaeology were involved in the planning process for a development at Greenbank, a Grade II* listed building on the outskirts of Chester, which formed part of a wide ranging development of Chester City Centre and Handbridge and involved the relocation of part of the West Cheshire College.
As part of a wider team of consultants working on the planning application for the development, L – P designed a low level archaeological evaluation to determine the extent, character and survival of any archaeological deposits on the site. The work was carried out by the Chester field team prior to determination of the application in order to identify any potential archaeology as early as possible in the process.
The site was located on the main Roman road running out of Chester and our works revealed Roman agricultural activity on the site in front of the house and 19th century garden structures behind the house.
