Croydon and Kingston Schools

Jun 24, 2010 by Guy Hunt

L – P : Archaeology have worked closely with several local authorities working through the Building Schools for the Future Programme. Given our experience in such work, we were contracted by the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames and the London Borough of Croydon in 2010 to undertake desk based assessments on nine schools that were being considered for redevelopment.

Our highly skilled staff collated historical, archaeological, cartographic and site survey information from wide ranging data sources in order to produce nine high quality, client focused reports to a short deadline.

This work set out the archaeological and historical context of each school site. L – P : Archaeology designed the reports to aid historic spatial understanding of the school sites, with the information compiled in both technical and summary terms.

Assessments were made of the potential for archaeological survival and the impact of proposed development. In this manner judgements could be made in the earliest planning stages as to whether further archaeological investigation was required and whether there will be any unexpected costs during the building phase.
