As consultant archaeologists for Welsh Water Partnership, L – P : Archaeology monitored works around Caernarfon Castle and Town Walls during the upgrading of the town’s water services.
The site is both a World Heritage Site and Scheduled Monument and therefore of international significance. L – P processed all relevant paperwork and consent applications, working closely with Cadw – the Welsh Assembly Government’s historic environment division – and Gwynnedd Archaeological Trust.
L – P’s project management of the archaeology allowed all necessary works to continue without disruption.
The archaeological Watching Brief on this site has provided a greater appreciation of the town’s development during the Victorian period of urbanisation and associated slate boom, and understanding of construction methods involved in building the Medieval town walls.
As a direct result of the archaeological services provided to Dŵr Cymru at Caernarfon Castle , L – P : Archaeology has been engaged on archaeological works for Welsh Water Partnership’s 4-year North Wales pipeline replacement project. This requires archaeological input at planning stage as well as monitoring during construction.
