History

L – P : Archaeology was set up in its current form on the 14th of April 1999 when the Lawson Price planning and development consultancy ceased to exist.
Lawson-Price was one of the leading town planning practices in Britain throughout the 1980s and 90s. During the 1990s Lawson-Price had pioneered the field of environmental and archaeological consultancy.

When Lawson-Price was finally broken up in April 1999, the management of the archaeology section of Lawson Price bought out their department and formed L – P : Archaeology. Several of our key clients stayed loyal to us through this difficult time, helping to ensure that the new business survived. After a few months, the business was growing again, recording 50% growth in the first year.

We set up our second office in Chester in 2001, following a long association of Lawson-Price with Chester. This proved to be a good business decision, allowing us to consolidate the projects that we were already undertaking in the region.

L – P : Archaeology was originally set up as a partnership, but as the business grew it became obvious that we should form into a limited company and issue shares to the partners. L – P : Partnership became a limited company in August 2002.

During 2003 and 2004 we experienced a sustained period of growth, doubling our small staff and extending our services to include a range of fieldwork services.

In 2005 we took on our largest ever number of field projects, undertaking several huge projects in different parts of the UK. 2005 also saw a huge increase in our activities in the digital area, expanding our pre-existing department to include full time software development alongside geomatics.

On the back of the phenomenal growth of 2005, this year has seen many changes to L – P. In particular our rebranding, the launch of this new website, setting up an East of England office and the recruitment of new staff in all our offices.
